A Dillon man arrested earlier this year is facing charges of first-degree kidnapping and sexual assault of a child, along with other charges, after allegations surfaced that he sexually assaulted multiple children while in a position of trust.
Hector Reyes-Martinez, 33, was arrested in January after children came forward alleging criminal sexual behavior from as far back as 2014 to 2018.
Detectives with the Dillon Police Department began investigating the case after being informed of a potential sexual assault by a forensic nurse examiner at St. Anthony Summit Medical Center in Frisco last December, according to court records.
During a forensic interview at the Treetop Child Advocacy Center in Breckenridge late last year, one of the children who was allegedly assaulted told police that Reyes-Martinez would inappropriately touch them while he was babysitting, and that the criminal behavior was ongoing from 2016 to 2018 — a story corroborated by another child who allegedly witnessed the assaults.
The child told police that Reyes-Martinez threatened physical violence if they ever told anyone, and said he hit them “a lot of times.” They also told police that he would move them from one location to another, sometimes covering their head to the point where it was difficult to breathe during the assaults.
During the interviews, police discovered there might have been another victim in the case as well. The other alleged victim, who is now over 18 years old, told police that Reyes-Martinez was engaging in this type of criminal behavior as far back as 2014.
The older victim also told police that Reyes-Martinez allegedly offered them marijuana and cocaine at a young age. Additionally, they told detectives that he had purchased land in Guatemala, and that he may try to abscond if he caught wind of the investigation.
An arrest warrant was issued for Reyes-Martinez on Jan. 9, and deputies with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office arrested him later that day.
Reyes-Martinez has been charged with six felony counts, including two counts of sexual assault on a child with a pattern of abuse, two counts of sexual assault on a child under 15 while in a position of trust, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and first-degree kidnapping — because he allegedly forcibly took the victim from one place to another with intent to force the victim into sexual acts. He has also been charged with two misdemeanor counts of child abuse.
Reyes-Martinez is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary demand hearing on June 3.
