On Wednesday, residents of First Street and Jasper Avenue stood outside their homes and watched as a crane lifted 12 modular units into place one by one to form Granby’s newest housing development, the Dairy Apartments.
About four hours after crews started, all of the units were in place, and workers planned to spend the rest of the day putting on the roof and shingling it. After that, the units and utilities will be stitched together, exterior stairs will be put up and final carpentry touches will be added.
Developer Steve Reeder said he expects to move tenants in by September and already has a list of interested parties waiting to view the final product.
Demolition of the old Meadow Gold Dairy took place in April to pave the way for the new apartments. Each unit was fabricated on factory floors in Nebraska before being delivered to Grand County.
The complex will feature 12 units — one studio and 11 one-bedroom apartments. Each will come with a full bathroom and kitchen, washer and dryer, and one dedicated parking space in the parking lot directly east of the building.
Reeder said he anticipates rent to be around $1,700-$1,750 per month, and he is encouraging prospective tenants to inquire about vacancies by calling Dakota Land LLC at 402-598-3506.
