If the concerns about the sheep were legitimate, these issues would have been raised during the mandatory environmental impact studies. (“Susan Knopf: Vail developers endanger bighorn sheep herd” published Oct. 11 in the Summit Daily News.)
Instead, these Johnny-come-lately concerns looks like a double-team from local marxist activists who oppose any private development and NIMBYers who think they can squeeze people out of the county by fighting any and all new housing construction. If the state or county was building this project instead of Vail Resorts, would we be hearing about the underfed sheep? Meanwhile, working folks like myself have to drive 50 minutes or more to work because there is no affordable housing in the county. I guess burning two gas tanks a week instead of taking the bus must be better for the environment. I do, however have a useful suggestion: set the good example and bulldoze your $1 to $2 million house to return the land for grazing, before you pontificate about the sheep, and I’ll shut up. Because at least you’ll actually believe in what you claim to care about.
