Library Corner: Make education one of your resolutions for 2020

With the New Year comes New Year’s resolutions. People’s most popular picks include healthy eating, exercise, and money management. It’s also a great time to focus on advancing one’s education and career opportunities. Grand County Library District and Career Online High School have teamed up to help you finish high school and train for an in-demand job.

This nationally accredited program allows adults 19 years and older to earn an accredited high school diploma — not a GED — while gaining career skills in one of ten employment fields across a wide spectrum, from home care professional and office management to homeland security. GCLD offers scholarships for the program, making it free for participants. The program is flexible, supportive, and you can transfer high school and GED test credits.

“What’s great about the program is that I truly believe anyone can do it,” says Jennifer Miller, who was in the GCLD’s first group of graduates. “I’m raising my children and supporting my daughter as she raises my grandchildren. I run a business with my husband, and I have health issues that are extremely painful and make it hard for me to concentrate. Despite all of these challenges, I still finished! It absolutely helped that I could go along at my own pace, log in whenever worked best for me day or night, and rely on my academic coach and library staff to provide support and encouragement along the way.”

GCLD awards scholarships to qualified adult learners on a first-come, first-served basis. Career Online High School is a great solution for those who need extra academic support and flexibility. Once in the program, students are assigned an academic coach who helps keep them on track and connects them with tutors if needed. The online curriculum is accessible 24/7. Students are given up to 18 months to complete the program, but many finish sooner because previously earned high school or GED test credits are accepted.

If you want to finish high school, Career Online High School through GCLD is the perfect option. You can earn an accredited diploma and get the training you need for a great new job. Remember, it’s never too late to finish school. Learn more at www.gcld.org/cohs.
