Mountain Family Center reopens after renovation

The Mountain Family Center thrift store is open again after a large-scale renovation of the center’s building at 480 E. Agate Avenue in Granby.

Sales at the thrift store support the Mountain Family Center’s food pantry and its housing and utility assistance programs, while also trying to offer quality items at low prices.

The store celebrated a soft opening on Aug. 5 with plans for a grand opening for the entire building on Oct. 2. The store is currently open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The nonprofit’s executive director, Helen Sedlar, said that some of the work is ongoing, and for safety reasons, she’s anticipating a short closure lasting 3-5 days while remaining exterior work is completed sometime in the near future.

Sedlar said the center will keep its customers and clients abreast to the looming closure on Facebook, Instagram and with a sandwich board outside the building.

She also noted that the thrift store’s entrance has shifted to the building’s main entrance, and all of the doors at the center are marked.

The nonprofit is also accepting donations. Donations are limited to two bags or boxes per person per day.

The Mountain Family Center takes clothes and shoes that are in season, in addition to housewares and various other items. For donations of large furniture, Sedlar said that donors need call ahead to make sure the center can accept the donation.

“Only with the wonderful support of this community have we been able to expand services to meet the growing needs of the community,” she said as she thanked people for backing the nonprofit the last 40 years its been working in the community. “We greatly appreciate the community support.”
