New children’s library cards to be issued in September

Summit County Library soon will have library cards for children ages birth to 18, according to a news release.

The new children’s card will be available Sept. 16 and feature a fox and companion bird, which was inspired by artist Carrie Tomaschko, of Sweet Melody Design, and selected through a voting process.

Libraries play an essential role in creating lifelong readers, and children who visit libraries and choose their books read more, according to the release. Reading also helps brain development and foundational language and literacy skills.

Owning a library card also helps teaches young children responsibility, according to the release.
