David Scott Ferguson
David Scott Ferguson (aka Scott, Scotty, Ferguson/Fergie/Fergs and Pappy), devoted father of Jaxxon and adoring husband of Darice, passed on 4/22/2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is also survived by parents Dave and Erline, sister Sarah (Jeff Fairchild), and nieces Rebecca and Maria.
Scott loved to love people but hated to admit it. He brought CrossFit to Summit County in 2008 and created a culture of support and acceptance for every person who walked through the door — from accomplished athletes to fitness newbies. Each person received his full attention and felt his love and support, both for their physical and spiritual selves. Scott had a knack for putting people at ease while at the same time pushing them to their very limits. He spent his days making individuals proud of themselves and confident in their abilities to live well.
Scott was born on May 20, 1969, and grew up Redding, CA. He earned a BA in writing from Texas Christian University and an MA from Springfield College in Athletic Administration. His early career took him all over the country, including marketing positions with the New Orleans Saints, Aspen Ski Company and Mount Shasta Ski Resort in California. Scott lived briefly in the Bay Area, where he created a personal fitness and training company. He finally settled in Breckenridge, first working at the Recreation Center and then opening CrossFit Breckenridge.
The greatest moment of his life was the birth of his son Jaxxon. He was devoted to his boy and would do ANYTHING for him. His final words, “I love you,” were to his son. His wish is that the wisdom he gave to Jaxxon before his death be a guiding light to Jaxxon in life. He also requested that the devoted staff at Snowy Peaks Middle School receive a special thank you for helping his boy move forward in life.
Next to Jaxxon, never did a man love his wife, nature, dogs, and most particularly, skiing more than anything life could offer. The mountains were his soul. His dogs were his companions. His wife was his best friend. Nature was his spiritual guide, and skiing was his passion. Jerry Garcia was his musical idol. Jerry and Meryl Haggard, who he often saw around town as he was growing up in the small town of Redding, CA.
Scott accomplished much, but he would want to be remembered for the small things — the daily gifts he gave his family and friends of love and acceptance. Scott could ‘see’ so much in anyone he knew. He could see who they were inside, what they needed to grow, and how he could best motivate each person in his life. He took his life motivation from people and from his faith.
We were lucky to know Scott and to have him in our lives. A Celebration of Life (and we will celebrate!) is planned for 3:00, June 25, at Silverthorne Pavilion. Food and drinks will follow the service.
Scott asked that you consider giving to a scholarship fund in his name with the Colorado Anschutz Nursing Campus. Scott was overwhelmed by the soulful care from his nursing team and wanted to help others to find their calling.
