A Kremmling man is back in police custody after missing his June court date on charges related to a high-speed pursuit.
Zachary T. Tangney, 25, is being held on $105,000 bail at the Grand County Jail. He was scheduled to appear for court in June for a case related to a high-speed pursuit through Kremmling that locked down schools in late April.
Tangney was arrested May 25 at a convenience store in Kremmling. After his arrest, he was released on a $25,000 bond.
Tangney’s first scheduled court appearance was supposed to be June 11, but he failed to appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest. It was on this warrant that Tangney was arrested by the Grand County Sherriff’s Office again on Wednesday.
Tangney appeared in court Thursday to discuss his various charges, and he is scheduled for an arraignment later this month.
According to the initial arrest warrant, Tangney initially pulled his vehicle over on the highway before speeding away and initiating a police pursuit.
The deputy chased Tangney to Colorado Timber Resources, north of Highway 40 at Grand County Road 21.
“The driver tore around the yard, making workers jump to get out of his way,” the warrant states. “He kept circling the lumber piles, almost striking workers and a front end loader.”
After another deputy arrived at the scene, Tangney’s vehicle struck one of the patrol vehicles on the front left corner. He then left the yard at Timber Resources headed west on Highway 40 toward Kremmling at speeds of 90-100 mph.
He continued for roughly 8 miles before other law enforcement officials deployed stop strips and flattened Tangney’s front left tire. The vehicle continued westbound to Rayner’s Trailer Court where Tangney allegedly exited the vehicle and entered one of the trailers in the court.
It resulted in a brief standoff at the trailer court as authorities unsuccessfully tried to communicate with Tangney. They eventually left the scene without him in custody and issued a warrant the next day for his arrest.
Tangney was charged with eight crimes, including two counts of vehicular eluding, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, violation of bail bond conditions, aggravated driving after revocation and speeding. He has also been charged with failure to appear.
