The Geiger Counter: Do you want some cheese with that wine?

Don’t know what to do this weekend? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Pull up a seat to the counter, and I’ll tell you about everything that’s hot and happening.

Two culinary festivals are upon us this weekend. While they may be separated by distance and ticket price, I think their respective themes — wine and macaroni and cheese — go hand in hand.

Over in Breckenridge, Main Street Station and The Village at Breckenridge will practically turn into a vineyard on Saturday, July 27, from 2 to 6 p.m. There will be more than 300 wines to sample, live music from Denver-based eclectic string quartet Spinphony, food and a silent auction host by Breckenridge Mountain Rotary.

But before the grand tasting begins, Sauce on the Maggie will have a food and wine pairing dinner Friday, July 26, at 7 p.m. Ryan Jones from Hess Winery and chef Jesse Redding worked together to craft a delectable meal and will share their insights and inspirations. Then on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sauce on the Maggie will close out the festivities with brunch featuring sparkling wine, craft cocktails and a buffet.

The grand tasting is $60 while the brunch is $50. Visit RockyMountainEvents.com to purchase tickets.

Meanwhile, Copper Mountain Resort is hosting its fifth annual Mac & Cheese Fest on Saturday, July 27, and Sunday, July 28, from noon to 5 p.m. Chefs from the resort restaurants will cook up a variety of cheesy foodstuffs throughout the weekend as people enjoy live music from The Shadowboxers on Saturday and the Chris Bauer Trio on Sunday,

Sample dishes include Mediterranean mac from Ten Mile Tavern, jalapeño popper mac and cheese from Eagle BBQ, mac and cheese crepes from Mountain Top Cookie Shop and more.

While food is acquired a la carte, new this year are passes that include swag, early entrance and ticket bundles. There’s a $20 package for kids and a $40 one for adults. Visit CopperColorado.com to purchase.

Dig in and cheers!
