Watch a screening of ‘The Weight of Water’ on Tuesday

For May’s Summit Film Society event, the public is invited to attend a screening of “The Weight of Water,” a movie about blind athlete Erik Weihenmayer kayaking the Grand Canyon solo. Weihenmayer has already overcome some stunning challenges for both sighted and blind people, including being the first blind person to summit Mount Everest in 2001 (along with summiting the tallest peaks in each continent) and recently skiing Aspen’s Highland Bowl.

“It’s so hard to be fully in the moment because there’s so much fear, there’s so much anxiety, it’s like a person looking through a window at an experience rather than being in the experience,” said Weihenmayer in a press release.

Robert Raker, Weihenmayer’s kayak trainer, will be in attendance.

The show begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Breckenridge Backstage Theatre and tickets are $12. Visit BreckCreate.org to purchase or call the Breck Create ticket office at 970-547-3100.
