West Grand put together a stout second-half effort, but the Mustangs’ rally came up short vs. Vail Christian in a 12-6 loss Friday night in Kremmling.
Vail Christian took an early lead with two TDs in the second quarter.
At halftime, West Grand introduced this year’s homecoming court, each student escorted onto the field by his or her mentor, after a performance from the Mustangs Spirit Team.
The Mustangs defense responded in the second half by holding the Saints scoreless throughout the remaining two quarters.
In the fourth quarter, West Grand junior Rene Dominguez ran for a 23-yard touchdown, and Jesus Dominguez intercepted a Vail Christian pass with about five minutes left in the game. However, the Mustangs couldn’t capitalize on the turnover, and the Saints escaped with the win.
