Another small earthquake was recorded early Friday morning just north of Glenwood Springs, the second time in two months that seismic activity was recorded in the area by earthquake scientists.
The latest temblor was recorded at 1:58 a.m. Friday, just north of Donegan Road between Mitchell and Oasis creeks, according to the U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Center in Golden..It registered at a magnitude of 3.1, with an epicenter a little over 1.8 miles north of town headed into the Flat Tops. It was recorded at a depth of about 1.2 miles, according to the USGS information site.
In early December, two early-morning earthquakes were recorded back-to-back in the same vicinity, registering 3.4 and 3.6 magnitude on the Richter scale.
Since the Glenwood quake, the USGS center has recorded quakes of similar magnitude in Harbor, Washington, Kiowa, Kansas, and two in Charlotte Amalie, USA in the Virgin Islands.
