Anytime Fitness works out in former Glenwood ReStore location

By Matthew Bennett Although Jessica Grenier has graduated from scoring goals on rival opponents and Kevin Grenier’s time of pressuring quarterbacks has passed, health and physical activity remains at the forefront of the newlywed’s first business venture together.
Anytime Fitness is set to open later this month in the former Habitat for Humanity ReStore location, 7025 Highway 82, south of Glenwood Springs.
The former Southern Methodist University soccer standout and her husband, a retired Mustangs football defensive end, will bring the 24-hour, seven-day-a-week gym chain to the Roaring Fork Valley.
“We thought that maybe we could bring our passion in life for fitness into a business of our own,” co-owner Jessica Grenier said. “This is our first fitness business, and we thought that [Anytime Fitness] was a perfect fit for our values in life.”
While business partner Kevin Grenier applauds the franchise’s roughly 3,000 gyms and 3 million members, Grenier wants Glenwood’s gym to still retain a small community feel alongside its state-of-the-art equipment.
“People realize it is not just a big corporate name. We own the business. We own everything. We bought and paid for everything,” Kevin Grenier said. “This is a local, small business, and [Anytime Fitness] is just the brand.”
The local owners and operators look forward to getting to know all of their clients by name, their respective goals, and what they themselves could do to help people reach those goals.
“All of our equipment is Life Fitness and it is brand new. We have a bunch of fun pieces, such as the Jacobs Ladder and we have about 1,500 square feet of artificial turf,” Jessica Grenier explained of Anytime Fitness’s amenities.
A Jacobs Ladder allows natural climbing at a 40-degree angle and relieves stress from the hips, knees, and lower back, according to jacobsladderexercise.com.
The gym also features a 20-yard runway for its Torque Tank sleds, battle ropes, TRX’s, balls to throw against the wall, and a custom spot rack with monkey bars, Jessica explained.
“All of our machines are hammer-strength, weight-loaded machines,” she said. “We have tons of free weights but also Selectorized machines, as well.”
Anytime Fitness’s Glenwood location will also offer numerous classes with personal trainers, as well another beauty benefit.
“We do have a tanning bed back there,” Kevin Grenier said. “You can add that to your membership, and if you are working out at midnight and want to go get a tan, you can do that.”
Added Jessica, “We do have a body fat scanner too. It is a great device that is used in the medical industry.”
“[The body fat scanner] is not always the easiest pill to swallow,” Kevin joked. “If you jump on there like me it is like, holy cow. But, it is a really good tool. It is a really good metric to set a baseline if you are trying to lose weight.”
The couple said they already have lined up clients from Rifle to Aspen.
“With us being the owners and operators, we are going to be here shaking people’s hands,” Kevin said. “We …read more
