Young bicyclists can improve their riding skills, learn safe ways to ride, receive a free helmet, and maybe even win bicycling prizes at the Bicycle Safety Rodeo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Valley View Hospital parking lot.
At this event, hosted by Glenwood Springs Bicycle Advocates, Kiwanis and the hospital, participants can ride a bicycle obstacle course designed to improve balance and control, learn safe-riding rules and just have fun. Bicycling coaches will help guide young riders through the course and offer tips for refining technique.
Cyclists will learn to negotiate stop signs, lumps, curves, crosswalks, driveways, cars and other surprises that can appear on a ride to school or out with friends.
Riders can borrow a bicycle for the event or bring their own bicycle to ride the course after a quick check and basic adjustments by expert mechanics.
Young riders who participate will receive a free fitted helmet and other appealing prizes.
Bicycling families can also enter drawings to win a new bicycle or a kids-toting bicycle trailer/jogging stroller.
The Bicycle Safety Rodeo is one of many informative stations at Valley View’s annual Kids and Teens Safety Fair, all at the upper parking lot east of the hospital main building.
