Cdale to accept apps for waste hauler

Carbondale will accept applications for a new waste hauling contractor starting Jan. 4, according to a press release.

The board of trustees has refined a request for proposals through public comment and committee discussions.

“The Town’s Climate and Energy Action Full Plan set a 2050 goal of zero waste and identified the need to provide waste diversion programs to all residents, businesses and construction projects,” the statement said.

The town board identified three goals to accomplish through selecting a single waste services provider, including decreasing the total amount of waste that goes to the landfill, reducing the traffic impact of waste collection vehicles, and reducing wildlife interactions with trash waiting to be picked up.

The town will seek potential waste haulers through a solid waste collection request for proposals, and expects to select a vendor March 26. Residents will be asked to select their individual service, including container size, recycling service, and pricing options for curbside services, in June.
