By Alex Zorn On Dec. 5, officers were notified of a theft at Rocky Mountain Liquors in Rifle. A male suspect had reportedly taken a bottle of liquor without paying for it.
Officers located a suspect matching the description the store clerk reported to them. The suspect was holding a large bottle matching the liquor bottle that was stolen.
When asked what he was holding, the suspect said he did not have anything, according to the arrest affidavit. The individual also did not have an ID on him.
Officers attempted to place the individual under arrest, but a struggle ensued. During the attempt to put handcuffs on him, the suspect stated he had a gun on him multiple times and that he would shoot officers.
The officers were able to place him under arrest and found a bottle of liquor under his jacket.
The suspect refused to walk, so officers had to carry him to the patrol car. Once at the car the suspect used his legs and feet to hook onto the door and the outside of the vehicle to prevent him from being placed inside the car, states the affidavit.
Officers were eventually able to get him inside the vehicle and placed him under arrest. Surveillance video identified the suspect as the same individual who stole the bottle of liquor.
SEARCH WARRANT LEADS TO RIFLE ARREST
On Nov. 14, officers executed a search warrant for a Rifle resident who had three active protection orders out on him, including a protection order from the person whose residence he visited that day.
Officers found a black backpack belonging to the suspect during the search of the residence containing methamphetamine, several small plastic baggies, a glass pipe with burnt residue and six used hypodermic needles. Officers also found a digital scale in the backpack during the search.
The suspect returned to the residence after officers left and was in the shower when officers returned, according to the arrest affidavit. When one of the officers approached the upstairs he saw the suspect dash into another room.
The officer drew his Taser based on the suspect’s recent violent and unpredictable behavior and called out for the suspect to come out with his hands up.
The suspect came out in compliance and was arrested on charges including domestic violence, violation of bond conditions and drug-related charges. …read more
