Expect traffic delays on Glenwood’s 27th Street Bridge this week

Traffic impacts related to the 27th Street Bridge replacement project in Glenwood Springs will be ramping up starting this week.

On Monday, from approximately 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., it is anticipated that one lane will be closed on the bridge and traffic will be in an alternating one-way configuration, according to news release from project officials. Motorists should anticipate delays.

And, beginning Tuesday, motorists and trail users should anticipate short, intermittent holds and delays on the bridge, as well as on South Grand Avenue and on Atkinson Trail near the construction area.

“The lane closure and holds are for construction access as crews clear the grub and trees, remove street light poles and trench for utility work in preparation for construction on the new, separated pedestrian bridge which will be built to the north of the current bridge,” according to the release.

Motorists should plan ahead for delays and allow extra time when traveling through the area, especially during peak times from 6:30-9 a.m. and 4-7 p.m.

Business access in the vicinity is to remain open, and motorists are advised to follow flagger instructions and construction signage.
