Musical Storytime with Ms. Holly

Caregivers and their young children are invited to a joyous musical Storytime at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Carbondale Library. It will include a movement circle, many songs, and a story in celebration of winter. Ms. Holly is a preschool teacher from the Waldorf School on the Roaring Fork, with over 20 years experience in teaching Waldorf education, from parent child classes to eighth grade. Participants can hear the live music of Ms. Holly’s ukulele, flute and fairy harp and will be invited to skip, jump, sing and maybe even whistle. For more information call 970-963-2889.

Living Vision Board Workshop

Adults are invited to the New Castle Library to learn how to actualize their dreams, visions and intentions by using Mind Mapping and creating a living vision board to stay engaged with long-term goals. This free two-part workshop takes place from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, and Saturday, Jan. 26. Free legal clinic at Basalt Library

A free legal clinic for parties who have no attorney will be featured from 4-5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Basalt Library at 14 Midland Ave. By computer link, volunteer attorneys will answer questions, help fill out forms, and explain the process and procedure for all areas of civil litigation, including family law, property law, probate law, collections, appeals, landlord-tenant law, small claims, veterans issues and civil protection orders. Walk-ins are welcome, and everyone will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis.

Literacy Outreach hosting information sessions for volunteer tutors

Literacy Outreach, a local nonprofit, will be hosting information sessions throughout January about volunteering to tutor adults who lack basic literacy skills. The schedule for these sessions is: 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, New Castle Library, 402 W. Glenwood Springs Garden Club planning 2019 Garden Tour

Glenwood Springs Garden Club is planning its 2019 Garden Tour, which will take placeJune 29. The Garden Tour committee is looking for gardens in the Glenwood Springs area to be included. All types of gardens could be included from a free form garden, a herb garden, an exotic vegetable garden or a garden sanctuary for birds. The tour raises funds for the club’s monthly speakers and to help with expanding garden projects in the Glenwood Springs area. This past year, Garden Club provided funding for a greenhouse at Glenwood Springs Elementary. Anyone interested in being considered for the 2019 Garden Tour can call Soraya Burg at 970-930-5776.

7th annual Epic Experience Hearts and Hope Gala

On Feb. 9, Epic Experience is hosting its seventh annual Hearts and Hope Gala at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Denver to help support the adult cancer community. This event celebrates cancer thrivers and raises money to send more thrivers to camp for an unforgettable week at the 7W Ranch in Sweetwater. The event program includes an inspiring presentation from an Epic camper, live auction, dancing and photo booth. Price of tickets is $175 per person, and any cancer survivor can attend for $125. Epic Experience is a Colorado nonprofit that offers free week-long adventure camps to adult cancer survivors. Through the outdoor activities and group discussions, Epic seeks to support survivors physically and emotionally as they move beyond their cancer diagnosis. Glenwood Community Concert Association season

Music lovers can enjoy the 71st season of performances brought to Glenwood Springs by the Community Concert Association. Memberships are available for $40 for adults, $15 for students and $90 for families. Mail a check to CCA, PO Box 214, Glenwood Springs.

Sponsors who donate $1,000 receive 10 tickets while co-sponsors/donors at $500 to $999 receive six tickets. Patrons who contribute $240 to $499 receive four tickets, while friends at the $120 to $239 level receive two tickets. All revenues go toward artist fees plus administrative and technical costs.

This group is for all parents of children with autism or “on the spectrum” kids. Participants meet at the Silt Library and discuss issues that arise, share funny stories, and help with questions the doctors just can’t answer. High Country RSVP Seeks Volunteers for American Red Cross

In light of this summer’s increased wildfire activity, organizations like the American Red Cross of Colorado need additional volunteers in order to serve the community with disaster preparedness and response services. This will ensure that if ever there is an emergency, there will always be trained individuals nearby, ready to use their Red Cross skills to save lives.

High Country RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) is looking for volunteers age 55 and older to serve with the American Red Cross of Colorado in Garfield County. 2018 Noxious Weeds Cost Share Program

Prevention, eradication and containment are the three essential functions in weed management. The Bookcliff, Mount Sopris and Southside Conservation Districts along with Garfield County’s Vegetation Management program will provide cost sharing financial assistance to rural landowners for the control of noxious weeds on their property. An onsite visit by the Conservation District or Garfield County Vegetation Management is required and continue through November. New Castle Cub Scouts seek adult leader

Would you like to get involved with a great group of kids? The New Castle Cub Scouts is looking for one or two den leaders to hold den meeting for one hour twice a month. LIFT-UP needs volunteers

Both English-speaking and bilingual volunteers are needed for a variety of LIFT-UP programs. Volunteer opportunities include:

Extended table: If you are part of a group interesting in serving and helping others or like to cook, this program is for you. LIFT-UP is looking for groups to pick a day to plan, prepare and serve the meal at Extended Table in Glenwood Springs.

Meal monkey: Be a part of the team that provides lunches to school kids on Fridays. Students, 18 and under, are served sack lunches on Fridays (since there is no school in the Re-2 school district on Fridays). Donations of snacks, funding and time are all needed.

Volunteer for veggies: Help UpRoot Colorado reduce food loss and food insecurity by helping harvest and redistribute fresh fruits and vegetables to our local pantries.

Parents of Addicted Loved Ones

Parents of Addicted Loved Ones (PAL) is a support group of parents helping parents that meets from 6-7:30 p.m. every Thursday at River Center, 126 N. Fourth St. in New Castle, to offer education and support, at no charge, for parents who are dealing with a son or daughter suffering from addiction. PAL can also help spouses who feel they have to parent their addicted partner. PAL is open to all sober family members and friends who are 18 years and older.

High Country RSVP is a national Senior Corps organization under the Corporation for National and Community Service and was started here in Glenwood Springs in 1973.
