A Glenwood Springs man allegedly violated a protection order against a Carbondale woman by attempting to contact her through fake Facebook profiles.
According to an affidavit by Carbondale police officers, the 40-year-old male used Facebook to message a woman he was forbidden by court order to contact.
The man created a false profile under a female name with a profile picture of a hammock the alleged victim bought, and used the app to message her Dec. 15. The alleged victim thought there was an emergency with the man, but stopped talking to him when he would not say.
The woman received another friend request Thursday from a profile by the name of “bunns bunns,” a pet name the suspect had for her. That’s when she contacted police. The man was arrested and is facing charges of harassment and violation of a protection order.
HARASSMENT
Police also arrested a 39-year-old male from Glenwood Springs Thursday on misdemeanor charges of harassment against his ex-girlfriend.
According to a Glenwood Springs Police affidavit, the suspect and the woman agreed to split the profits on the woman’s car, which he was to sell. The man sold the vehicle, but told the woman “he would only give her the money from it if she agreed to have dinner with him,” according to the affidavit.
The alleged victim broke up with the man in November, and on Dec. 17 she contacted police to say he would not leave her alone and would show up near her work. The suspect was booked in the Garfield County Jail on charges of harassment. His bond has not been set.
DRUG ARREST
The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Threat Assessment Group attempted to pull over a white Dodge Ram Wednesday for driving 15 miles over the speed limit heading west outside of Rifle on U.S. Highway 6. According to an arrest affidavit, the driver of the vehicle would not stop when deputies first turned on the siren, but eventually did pull over on the I-70 ramp.
After instructing the driver to exit and giving him a pat down, one of the investigators questioned the passenger, who allegedly gave an incorrect spelling of his name and switched his middle and first names.
Later identified otherwise, the 18-year-old suspect was being evasive, the officer said in the affidavit. There was an active warrant for man in Rio Blanco County for underage possession of alcohol.
As the officer moved to search the suspect and arrest him, he found a methamphetamine pipe in his jacket pocket, and a folded piece of paper with more than 3 grams of white crystalline substance, which tested positive for meth, according to the sheriff’s report.
Deputies also said they found an unloaded 9mm handgun under the passenger’s seat that appears to have been stolen out of Nebraska. The passenger and the driver said they did not know where it came from.
The 18-year-old faces charges of felony criminal impersonation for giving his middle name as his first and misspelling it, as well as possession of a controlled substance, and having drug paraphernalia, a petty offense. His bond was set at $300.
