Garfield County crime briefs: Trailer party ends in 2 arrests, 8 tickets for underaged drinking

On Jan. 4, at approximately 11:09 p.m. deputies with the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office were advised of a house party outside of New Castle where possible illicit drug and alcohol activity among minors was taking place.

According to a warrantless arrest affidavit, “a party had stated that juveniles were taking pictures at a house party and posting them on Snapchat, and that some of the photos contained pictures of alcohol as well as marijuana and cocaine use at the party.”

When deputies arrived at the trailer, they were met with loud music, numerous beer and liquor bottles, as well as the distinct odor of burnt marijuana within the residence, according to the affidavit.

Many of the partygoers on the trailer’s back porch attempted to run when they saw the deputies, but were ordered back inside.

“I did not believe that all of the parties inside were 21 and that many of the parties I observed running appeared to be much younger,” a deputy stated in the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, two brothers, both age 22, identified themselves as the homeowners. And, after running each subject’s name through dispatch one of the males was identified as the restrained party in a mandatory protection order.

One of the homeowners said that several of the people at the party were his co-workers who were all over the age of 21. They were all identified and subsequently released from the scene, according to the affidavit.

Deputies then began to identify all of the juvenile parties on scene, one of whom “was observed to be heavily intoxicated” to the point that “EMS personnel were requested to respond to the scene to check on the party,” the affidavit stated.

One of the homeowners told deputies he had purchased marijuana and three Modelo tallboy beers but “denied purchasing any of the other alcohol observed in the residence.”

The other homeowner advised that when people started showing up, “he failed to check anyone’s ID, however he did tell all of the parties that they would need to respect the house rules and keep things calm.”

Both 22-year-old male subjects were transported to the Garfield County Jail without incident, and were charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. One was also charged with violation of a protection order.

Additionally, according to the affidavit, deputies “ended up issuing a total of eight summonses to parties for minor in possession of alcohol, with the youngest party being 15 years of age.”

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO 4TH DUI

On Jan. 3, at approximately 1:42 p.m., a Colorado State Patrol trooper pulled over a 32-year-old female for failing to stop at a stop sign in Rifle.

According to the arrest affidavit, the driver parked and immediately exited the dark blue sedan.

After contacting the driver, who was smoking, the officer told the female, that “freshly lit cigarettes are used as a masking odor,” and asked how much she had to drink, according to the affidavit.

The driver denied drinking any alcohol and agreed to perform voluntary roadside maneuvers. According to the affidavit, she failed.

After blowing a .114 on a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT), the female subject was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or both.

Later, at the Rifle Police Department, the subject completed an evidential breath test, the result of which was a BrAC of 0.149. The female was then transported to the Garfield County Jail, without incident.

The driver was charged with failure to stop at a stop sign, not wearing a safety belt, driving under FRA suspension, driving under the influence of drugs alcohol or both, and driving a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or more.

According to the affidavit, the driver “had three previous DUI convictions making this her fourth.”
