Glenwood Middle School 8th grade boys win another PEG League title

The Glenwood Springs Middle School eighth grade boys won a third straight PEG league championship this fall.

Coached by Trent Hallagin, the Glenwood Demons went undefeated in regular-season league play and swept the Dec. 7 league tournament with wins over Grand Valley, Rifle and Riverside to go 13-2 on the season.

Glenwood’s only losses came to Summit Middle School in the Eagle Valley Tournament on Nov. 9.

On the season, the Glenwood boys scored an impressive 635 points through 15 games, while limiting their opponents to 311 points.

Luis Venagas led the team in both scoring and rebounding for the season, compiling 143 points and pulling down 135 rebounds (59 offensive).

Second-leading scorer for the Demons was Joaquin Sandoval with 128 points, followed by Sim Wenger with 109. Sandoval and Wenger also had 52 and 45 rebounds on the season, respectively.

As a team, Glenwood made 41% of its field goal attempts, and was good for 42% of its free throws.
