Authorities have identified a man found deceased in a tent near Carbondale Wednesday afternoon as Thomas Goodman, 61.
The mother of the deceased, who resides out of state, has been notified, Garfield County Coroner Robert Glassmire said.
Though the weather was cold Tuesday night, Goodman died of natural causes including cirrhosis and chronic alcoholism, according to an autopsy conducted by the coroner’s office.
Garfield County Sheriff’s deputies found nothing suspicious about the scene where Goodman was found, not far from Highway 82 near mile marker 11. A friend of Goodman discovered his body, and alerted law enforcement.
Goodman is best described as a transient, Glassmire said. “He was a man that lived in his tent in the area of Carbondale, so as far as I know he didn’t have a permanent home,” Glassmire said.
