Ice flow advisory issued for lower Roaring Fork, Frying Pan rivers

The nonprofit river watch group based in Basalt said Friday that the concern comes following the recent bitter cold snap and temperatures forecast in the 30s and 40s starting this weekend that will melt and loosen ice in local rivers.

“Anglers and anyone near or in the rivers this weekend should use extreme caution and be on the lookout for ice flows,” according to a press release.

In in the event of an ice flow, the conservancy advises that people should move away from the river and seek high ground.

Anyone who witnesses an ice flow is asked to call Taylor Creek Fly Shop in Basalt at (970) 927-4374.
