Police: X Games crowds well-behaved over weekend in Aspen area

Local law enforcement said Sunday the X Games crowds and visitors around the area have been behaving and there were few incidents on Friday or Saturday nights.

Aside from people wandering around town early in the morning hours looking for rides or walking on Highway 82 between bus stops, there were no major problems, officials with the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office and Aspen Police said Sunday.

There was just one felony arrest over the weekend, and it turned into felony drug charges.

Aspen police arrested Derek Andrew Goolsby, 41, who is a rapper and goes by DJ Scramn, on a felony warrant out of Georgia for probation violation, Aspen Police Sgt. Rick Magnuson said.

Officials were notified that Goolsby might be in town performing, and Aspen police confirmed it by his social media posts. They arrested him about 11 p.m. Saturday at the Bootsy Bellows nightclub on the outstanding warrant.

Goolsby was later charged after he was being booked and police found cocaine on him, Magnuson said. Goolsby has been charged with two Class 4 felonies: unlawful possession of a controlled substance and introducing contraband in the first degree.

Aside from that, the crowds for the competitions and concerts have filled Aspen but with little trouble.

“There were tons of people in town, but I think we’ve had a very successful X Games up to this point,” Magnuson said Sunday afternoon. “Good behavior by everyone.”
