PREP ROUNDUP: Roaring Fork baseball tops Moffat County, 8-7; Coal Ridge baseball falls to Meeker, 8-6

Making the trip to Craig Thursday afternoon for a 3A Western Slope League tilt with the Moffat County Bulldogs, the Roaring Fork Rams baseball team picked up a close 8-7 win despite leaving 17 runners on base.

The Rams were just one hit away in nearly every inning from breaking the game open, according to head coach Marty Madsen.

Against the Bulldogs, junior Eli Nickamin recorded an RBI single, while senior Layne Crisp doubled and scored a run on a balk, and senior Dawson Kuhl, singled, doubled and drove in a run in the win.

Senior Kevlin Requeno singled twice and walked twice, while junior Kyle Baird singled twice, walked twice and drove in a run. Sophomore Graham Pietsch singled twice and drove in a run,.

The win sees Roaring Fork improve to 3-6 (2-1 in 3A WSL) on the season. The Rams host Cedaredge Saturday at Ron Patch Memorial Field at 11 a.m.

BASEBALL

Meeker 8, Coal Ridge 6

Hosting the Meeker Cowboys Thursday in New Castle in a non-league match-up, the Coal Ridge Titans baseball team dropped a tough 8-6 decision.

The Titans started strong but came up short in the end despite a strong pitching performance by junior Lane Stecklein. The junior worked five innings, striking out seven Cowboy hitters in the loss.

Offensively, senior Oscar Salazar led the Titans with two RBIs on the afternoon, while sophomore Colton Westphal walked twice for the Titans in the loss.

With the loss, Coal Ridge falls to 4-8 (0-2 in 3A WSL) on the season. The Titans travel to Aspen Saturday for a league match-up with the Skiers at 11 a.m.
