On the road in Gunnsion Friday night for a 3A Western Slope League clash with the Cowboys, the Roaring Fork Rams girls basketball team pulled out a 56-49 win over the host Cowboys, thanks to a 12-point showing from senior guard Logan Erickson.
Erickson scored a game-high 12 points for the Rams, hitting two 3-pointers in the process. Joining Erickson in the win was junior guard Emily Broadhurst, who added 11 points. The Rams received balanced scoring throughout the night as Isa Hernandez and Kendall Bernot chipped in with 9 points each in the win.
Roaring Fork scored 12 points in the first quarter, seven points in the second, 18 in the third, and 14 in the fourth to hold off Gunnison.
For the Cowboys, Laura Hanks led the way with 9 points, while Jenna Wise added 8 points.
Roaring Fork returns home Saturday for the first home game since the Brenda Patch Tourament. The Rams host Aspen Saturday night at 5:30 and 7 p.m.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Roaring Fork 59, Gunnison 45
The Roaring Fork Rams boys basketball team rolled to a 59-45 win Friday night on the road against the Gunnison Cowboys to remain in the 3A Western Slope League regular season championship hunt.
Against Gunnison, senior Joe Salinas had a huge night, pouring in a game-high 26 points, hitting three 3-pointers in the win. Joining Salinas was sophomore Graham Pietch, who scored 12 points, while senior Aidan Sloan added 9 points.
The Rams (6-6, 2-1 3A WSL) host Aspen Saturday at 7 p.m. in Carbondale.
RIFLE WRESTLING
Hosting Steamboat Springs and Palisade Friday night in a Tri-Dual, the Rifle Bears wrestling team cruised to a dual win inside Jack Smith Gymnasium, defeating the Sailors 64-9, and the Bulldogs, 41-27, to remain on a roll in the 2018-19 season.
On Thursday night in Hayden, Rifle wrestlers each gave a Hayden wrestler and coach a black and orange ribbon in remembrance of late head coach Chad Jones. Rifle wrestlers also had black and orange tape on their head gear. The Rifle coaches presented the current Hayden head coach with a special plaque honoring Coach Jones.
Returning home after an emotional night, the Bears dominated on the mat in the win over Steamboat Springs.
Bryce Rowley picked up an impressive win by fall in the 132-pound match in just 6 seconds, while Conrad Demann won by major decision (15-1) in the 145-pound match. Kyle Lang added a win by fall in 4:49 of the 170-pound match, and Jared Henderson won by fall in the 220-pound match in 5:40.
Against Palisade, Rowley picked up a 7-3 decision win in the 132-pound match, while Talon Cordova won by decision (9-8) in a tightly-contested 138-pound match. Demann added a win by fall in 1:43 of the 145-pound match, while Dillon Tiffany won by technical fall (15-0) in the 152-pound match.
