PREP ROUNDUP: Roaring Fork soccer defeats CRMS, 3-0; Glenwood soccer falls to Steamboat, 4-1

Making the short trip to Colorado Rocky Mountain School Thursday for a matchup with the Oysters, the Roaring Fork Rams girls soccer team picked up a 3-0 win with three second-half goals in non-league action in Carbondale.

The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie at the half, but the Rams busted out in a big way in the second half.

Junior Emily Broadhurst started the scoring for Roaring Fork in the second half off of a feed from sophomore Grace Jardine, before sophomore Izzy Knaus made it 2-0 Rams thanks to an assist from senior Sandra Grijalva.

Freshman Macey Peery capped off the 3-0 win with her first varsity goal late in the second half that was unassisted.

The win over CRMS pushes the Rams to 2-2 on the season. Roaring Fork returns to action Saturday in a rivalry matchup against the Basalt Longhorns in Carbondale at 4 p.m.

GIRLS SOCCER

Steamboat Springs 4, Glenwood Springs 1

On the road Thursday evening for a league matchup against the Steamboat Springs Sailors, the Glenwood Springs Demons girls soccer team got off to a slow start and couldn’t recover, dropping a frustrating 4-1 decision.

The Sailors scored just 3:57 into the game as senior Rachelle Koly worked her way into the 6-yard box and fired a shot left to right past Glenwood Springs goalkeeper Abby Scruton to make it 1-0 Steamboat Springs. The Sailors struck again quickly at the 6:44 mark of the first half as junior Sophie Leeson found Koly for a one-touch shot into the upper right corner of the net.

Midway through the first half Koly capped off the hat trick as the senior worked through the Glenwood defense and got within 10 yards of the goal, firing a shot low to the right post for a 3-0 Steamboat lead.

Glenwood answered just under a minute later as sophomore Reece Goluba found fellow sophomore Maya Elias for the Demons’ lone goal of the night.

The goal didn’t spark a comeback though as the Sailors added a fourth goal right before the half before holding the Demons scoreless in the second half for the 4-1 win.

The loss drops Glenwood to 3-2 (3-1 in 4A WSL) on the season. The Demons return home for a Saturday matchup with Arvada West at 1 p.m.
