Richard Erwin Alary passed away peacefully on January 12, 2019, at Valley View Hospital from complications of a fall and heart failure. He was born on January 5, 1950, in Arkansas. Richard grew up in Thousand Oaks, California, and moved to Glenwood Springs in 1979. Shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life, Evelyn Maddalone, who he has now been reunited with, and raised her daughter as his own.
After graduation Richard was drafted into the Army and was honorably discharged in 1973. He then went on to receive his refrigeration and heating certificate. Richard worked at the Garfield County Courthouse for 37 years, retiring in 2015. He loved to hunt, fish, collect antiques, and books. He was a man of little words but the strongest and most humble man his family has ever met. Richard has lovingly been described as a gentle giant. Words do not describe how much he was loved and how much he will be missed. We take solace that he is dancing with Evelyn now.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Nissa Maddalone, granddaughter, Sophia Taylor, his “son” Joseph Bianco and “daughter” Teresa Bianco, their daughters, Carrie, Cindy and Katie and their families. He is also survived by his sister, Michelle Zuniga (Sergio), brothers Kirby Alary (Michael) and Vern Alary (Robin), sister-in-law, Terri Bengtson (Stan), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his love, Evelyn Maddalone, his mother, Jewell Alary, his father, Al Alary and his brother Mel Alary.
A celebration of life will be held at Farnum Holt on February 16, 2019, at 10 a.m., and a reception will follow; location will be announced at a later date.
