The two-time 4A Western Slope League Softball Player of the Year award winner now has a new home.
Rifle senior Kaitlyn Harris signed her national letter of intent Friday afternoon at Rifle High School to attend Garden City Community College, where she’ll play softball at the junior college for at least two seasons.
Harris won the 4A Western Slope League Player of the Year award in 2017 and 2018, finishing her Rifle career by settubg five new school records during the season, recording 38 hits, 14 doubles, 41 runs batted in (11th in the state), 180 putouts, and fielding percentage for a catcher (.990). In addition to those records, she hit .442 on the season with 34 runs scored, five home runs, 17 stolen bases and an .802 slugging percentage. Defensively, she had just one passed ball and two errors all season at catcher.
For her career, Harris hit .434, recoring 116 hits, 110 runs scored, and 113 runs batted in. She hit 37 doubles, six triples, and 10 homeruns. Harris struck out just 25 times in 321 plate appearances, and finished with a .970 field percentage behind the plate.
The senior catcher earned First Team All-Conference honors all four years on varsity, earned a Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports All-State Game selection, and a Colorado High School Coaches Association All-State game selection. She closed out her career with 4A All-State honorable mention accolades in her final two years.
Harris heads to a Garden City program that went 25-28 during the 2018 season under head coach Becky Gundy. The Broncos open the 2019 season on Feb. 2 at Otero Junior College. Harris will be the 7th player from the state of Colorado on the Broncos roster next season.
