Roaring Fork Conservancy will host Fryingpan River Cleanup Saturday in Basalt

The Roaring Fork Conservancy’s 21st annual Fryingpan River Cleanup will be hosted Saturday in Basalt.

The event depends on volunteers to help cleanup sections of the lower Fryingpan River and the Roaring Fork River through Basalt.

The day begins at Lions Park by Town Hall with registration and a free hot breakfast by the Basalt Lions Club. Volunteers will be assigned to 1-mile stretches of the rivers. They will be provided with trash bags and safety vests.

Participants are urged to dress appropriately because the event will be held regardless of what Mother Natures tosses at them that day. Organizers are recommending that participants have warm layers, gloves, long pants, a hat and sunscreen. Volunteers also should have water available.

Prizes will be awarded for Best of Trash, Most Useful and Most Unusual. The deadline for entering trash in the competition is 11:30 a.m. Awards will be announced at 11:45 a.m.
