Shorthanded Demons compete at GJ Duals

By Josh Carney The Glenwood Springs Demons’ wrestling team sent just 4 wrestlers to Saturday’s Grand Junction Duals due to injuries and illness. Shorthanded, the Demons dropped all 5 duals, falling to Eagle Valley 63-10, Fruita Monument 67-12, Grand Junction 54-22, Moffat County 43-9, and Montrose 41-15.
Despite the struggles from a team standpoint, Glenwood saw all four wrestlers perform well as junior Amos Wilson opened the dual against Eagle Valley in strong fashion, winning his 182-pound match over Davis Ward by major decision, 13-5.
Wilson then won by fall over Fruita Monument’s Delson Pyland at the 3:16 mark, while Erik Krauth added another win for Glenwood in the 138-pound match against Fruita Monument, pinning Hunter Reile at the 5:08 mark.
Wilson topped Grand Junction’s Matthew Lane by technical fall (20-3), while Krauth beat Dylan Roahrig by fall. Glenwood’s Joaquin Garcia picked up his first win of the dual tournament, winning by technical fall over Colton Harvey in the 145-pound weight class by a score of 21-6.
Wilson remained unbeaten in the match against Moffat County, pinning Daniel Cruz in just 1:37, while Glenwood’s Joshua Sanchez won his 152-pound match by decision, 14-10.
Against Moffat County, Garcia pinned Trent Blundell at the 5:08 mark in the 145-pound match, while Sanchez topped Kaale Bradshaw by sudden victory, 14-12, in the 152-pound match. Wilson closed out his perfect weekend with a win by fall over Raul Martinez in the 182-pound match at the 4:51 mark.
