A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after a witness reported seeing him with a gun in the parking lot of Grand Junction High School.
The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reported Friday the weapon turned out to be a BB gun that appeared to be a handgun.
The boy was arrested on suspicion of menacing, carrying a weapon on school grounds, obstructing a peace officer and other charges. His name wasn’t released.
The high school, a middle school and Colorado Mesa University were locked down after the witness called 911 around midday Friday. An elementary school told students and staff to shelter in place.
Officers found the teen about seven minutes after receiving the call.
Grand Junction Police, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department, Colorado State Patrol and school district safety personnel responded.
