Vail’s ‘Camp Minturn’ campus of elementary school evacuated due to gas leak

MINTURN — Red Sandstone Elementary School’s “Camp Minturn” campus was evacuated this morning due to a natural gas leak outside of the modular classrooms. Students were relocated to the nearby Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy, and all students are accounted for and safe. Excel Energy is on-site and making repairs.

Classes will continue as normal for students in kindergarten through fifth grade at the Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy campus.

The leak has cancelled preschool at the site, and Eagle County Schools officials ask that parents pick up their preschool students by noon from the Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy.

District officials will send updates about whether or not preschool will be held Tuesday, and where all classes for Red Sandstone will be held once conditions have returned to normal.

Red Sandstone students have been moved from Vail to Minturn for this school year due to an extensive renovation project at the Vail site.
