Afro-soul outfit the Budos Band unveiled a new psych-tinged scorcher, “Old Engine Oil,” that will appear on their forthcoming record, V, out April 12th via Daptone Records.
“Old Engine Oil” is centered around a rugged hard rock riff and a fanfare of gritty horns. The instrumental moves at a captivating chug until the Budos Band deftly spin it out into a psychedelic breakdown before steadily restructuring the original vamp for one final blast.
V marks the Budos Band’s first album since 2014’s Burnt Offering. In a statement, guitarist/producer Tom Breakneck described the LP as having a mix of the rock and roll elements of Burnt Offering, as well as other styles that could be found on the band’s previous three records.
“Budos is back with a vengeance,” Brenneck said. “I think that if you don’t want to either get in a car and drive fast or just pour yourself a strong drink and start having some fun, then you’re not listening to it loud enough.”
V is available to pre-order digitally, as well as on CD and vinyl. The Budos Band will kick off a short North American tour in support of the record April 5th at Bowery Ballroom in New York City.
