We spoke to Fightstar frontman Charlie Simpson, and he shared the story behind the name of ’99’ off ‘One Day Son, This Will All Be Yours’, and it’s not really what you’d expect.
Charlie shared “The first thing I wrote for the album was ‘99’. I remember I’d just moved into a flat in London with my brother and set up a little studio, and just tarted writing this song. It was one of my favourite songs on the album and I remember getting to the end and thinking, ‘Fuck, this is awesome. What should I call it?’”
He continues “My keyboard had broken and the only key on the whole keyboard that worked was ‘9’, so I just called it ‘99’ and tapped it twice. I guess after I’d written that song, it was like, ‘okay, we’re off’”.
And the rest is history!
