CupcakKe is reportedly safe after writing “I’m about to commit suicide” and “thank you for everything y’all have done for me I really appreciate it” on her social media channels on Monday night. The rapper, whose real name is Elizabeth Harris, was subsequently transported to the hospital by the Chicago Police Department, according to BBC News.
“Officers went out a few times to check on Elizabeth. Once they got in touch with her, they took her to hospital – not for her injuries – but for a mental evaluation,” police told BBC’s Radio 1 Newsbeat.
A representative for CupcakKe has yet to reply to a request for comment.
Throughout the night, the comedian Elijah Daniel sent out updates that the police were searching for Harris after they were contacted about her suicidal posts and posted when she was taken to the hospital. Numerous friends and collaborators posted messages hoping for the rapper’s safety and describing her influence on the music industry.
“You are one of the most unique, genuine and loving people I have ever met in this industry,” Charli XCX wrote of her “I Got It” co-star. “You are such a HUGE inspiration so many kids, to so many artists, to me. Whenever you walk into a room or onto a stage you exude so much LOVE and the energy in the room turns electric.”
Iggy Azalea, whose ‘Bad Girls’ tour with CupcakKe was canceled last fall, tweeted, “I understand how hopeless and overwhelmed with negativity we can sometimes feel … I hope you’ll take some time with those that really know YOU best; then when you’re ready come back stronger than ever!”
