Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas unveiled a thunderous, life-affirming new song, “One Less Day (Dying Young),” from his forthcoming solo record, Chip Tooth Smile, out April 26th.
“One Less Day” was produced by Butch Walker and boasts a steady gallop of drums and chugging guitars, over which Thomas delivers an impassioned vocal performance with lyrics like, “All my life I have been wandering/Burning up my candle like my time just won’t end/And I’ll keep burning until there’s nothing left/Praying that tomorrow I can do it all again.” The track arrives with an Andy Morahan-directed video, in which Thomas performs the song surrounded by hundreds of lit candles and a fire dancer.
Thomas also announced a North American tour in support of Chip Tooth Smile that’s set to kick off May 28th at the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank, New Jersey. The run will extend throughout the summer, wrapping August 4th at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Country artist Abby Anderson will serve as support throughout the trek.
Tickets will go on sale March 1st at 10 a.m. local time. A fan club pre-sale will begin February 25th at 10 a.m. local time, while those who pre-order Chip Tooth Smile will also have access to tickets at that time.
Chip Tooth Smile marks Thomas’ fourth solo album and first since 2015’s The Great Unknown. Matchbox Twenty released their most recent album, North, in 2012.
