But we’re glad it did.
I Prevail talk their brand new album ‘Trauma’ inside the current issue of Rock Sound – but for a while the future of the album was up in the air.
Sharing the story of the end of the band’s previous album cycle, co-frontman Brian Burkheiser said “We were already in a tough spot mentally. We had been touring so relentlessly and then the injury just hit me.”
Speaking about a polyp that had developed on his vocal chords, he shared he wasn’t sure he’d ever be able to sing again “I came off the road thinking, ‘Shit, am I ever going to be to sing again? Am I ever going to be able to get my mental state back to a good place where I actually want to go back out on stage?’ I sat there for weeks just thinking whether I would actually want to do this band anymore. The deep bond we have in this band really kept me going though.”
“It was two weeks into the longest tour of our longest touring cycle,” Eric Vanlerberghe, fellow I Prevail vocalist continued. “Having a brother fall down like that at the final stretch was a defeating feeling. After Brian’s surgery though, I don’t think I have ever been more excited to be in a studio. We were finally ready to write the music that we wanted to.”
And the rest is history!
