Kanye West Sets New ‘Jesus Is King’ Release Date

After a handful of delays, Kanye West will release his new album, Jesus Is King, this Friday, October 25th.

West tweeted the release date early Monday morning alongside a photo of Jesus Is King pressed on blue vinyl. The album’s arrival will coincide with the release of West’s accompanying film, also titled Jesus Is King, which will premiere in IMAX theaters on the 25th.

West first teased Jesus Is King at the end of August. At the time, the rapper’s wife, Kim Kardashian West, posted a photo of what seemed to be a track list with the tentative release date, September 27th. West later confirmed that date on his website, although come September 25th, sources close to the situation confirmed to Rolling Stone that it would not arrive on the scheduled date. And while Kardashian West promised the record would actually arrive Sunday the 29th, it never materialized.

But instead of releasing the album that weekend, West scheduled a mysterious event in Detroit where he ended up premiering the Jesus Is King film. And, a few days later, he hosted a listening party in New York City for the then still-in-the-works record.

Jesus Is King follows West’s 2018 solo effort, Ye, and his collaboration with Kid Cudi, Kids See Ghosts. The Jesus Is King film, meanwhile, was directed by Nick Knight and will reportedly feature West’s Sunday Service choir as well as footage of artist James Turrell’s never-before-seen installation in Arizona’s Painted Desert.
