This can only be described as ambitious.
Trivium‘s 2005 album ‘Ascendancy’ is one of the 250 greatest albums of our 20 year lifetime! Find out where it placed inside our 250th issue – it’s available right now from SHOP.ROCKSOUND.TV
We spoke with Trivium’s Matt Heafy to talk through all things ‘Ascendancy’, and it turns out there was almost a very surprising bonus track on the album… “I did have another idea for ‘Ascendancy’, and I wonder so much whether it would have been a good idea or not.” Matt shared. “When we were about to record it, on the Roadrage tour, I told Robb Flynn, ‘Hey, I’ve had this awesome idea, I want to make a Trivium-ised version of *NSYNC’s ‘Tearin’ Up My Heart’ and put it as a secret track on ‘Ascendency’.”
“He was like, ‘That’s a horrible idea, don’t do it.’ So we didn’t – but I’ve always wondered if it would have worked. Look at all the heavy bands covering pop songs now!”
The good news is, over a decade later Matt recorded a cover anyway and put it on YouTube. Check it out below:
