Whether Dr. Lucinda Young is in her dental scrubs or her U.S. Army Reserves uniform, she is known in her community for her dedication and service.
Originally from Grand County, Young left to earn her degrees from Montana State University and Boston University before returning home to give back. According to her nomination, her community has benefited greatly since her return.
“Lucinda has a passion for dentistry and caring for her patients,” the nomination read. “In her short time back she has volunteered at school doing dental screenings, as well as at our community health fairs.”
What problem would you like to solve?
There is always an access to dental care problem and that can be even more severe in a rural area. I hope to continue working towards making access to good quality dental care in Grand County a community effort.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Taking care of people’s oral health and living the dream in Grand County. I also hope to be finishing up my service to the Country as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army Reserves.
Who’s your hero and why?
I have a few too many to name here but two that I have looked up to all my life would have to be my grandfathers. Their unwavering love for their families and sacrifices they made not only to their families but also to this country left an impression on me from a young age. They were both very supportive of me and I can’t remember spending time with them that wasn’t full of love and support.
What is it about your generation that sets it apart?
I fit more into the Xennial generation than the Millennial generation because I grew up in an analog world but have transferred into a digital adulthood. This makes it easier for my generation to bridge the gap from before everything was digital to now and allows us to understand where older and younger generations are coming from.
Why did you choose Grand County?
I grew up in the county, graduated from MPHS in 2001 and have been working on getting back here for the quality of life and community. This has always been home for me.
How do you like to play in Grand County?
I enjoy most of the outdoor activities available here but some of my favorites are skiing, hiking, and camping.
What kind of future do you see for your industry in Grand County?
With the continued growth of full time residents in the county I see an increase in the dental needs in Grand County. People are living longer and keeping their teeth healthy is an important factor in maintaining their quality of life.
If you could change one thing about Grand County, what would it be?
Access to affordable housing for the people who live and work here full-time.
