What problem would you like to solve?
In recent years I’ve seen a real problem with affordable housing and how it relates to the labor force across the county and in resort areas generally. I would like to help in addressing this issue and ensuring that it does not continue to be a problem in the future.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I would hope that in 10 years I am still here in Grand Lake growing with, and giving back to, the community I love through business and volunteering opportunities with local charities, nonprofits and other meaningful organizations.
Who’s your hero and why?
I like to draw off of my many sources of inspiration. Some of these include my parents, my beautiful wife who helps me to remember to take a step back and reassess difficult decisions with a level head; and various community members who I am privileged to have the opportunity to work with.
What is it about your generation that sets it apart?
I believe that my generation is set apart by an enduring sense of empathy, compassion and a commitment to leaving the world better than we found it.
Why did you choose Grand County?
I was born and raised in Grand County. Growing up I was always certain that I would live my adult life elsewhere. It took leaving the area to make me truly appreciate what a gift living in Grand County can be.
How do you like to play in Grand County?
My wife, Katie, and I like to get out and ride our road bikes up on Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park, go hiking and backpacking and take kayaks or SUPs out on what are probably the best lakes in the state. We take advantage of the world-class Nordic skiing and go ski touring up in what feels like our own private National Park.
What kind of future do you see for your industry in Grand County?
The outlook for the outdoor industry in Grand County is quite positive. As folks continue to flock to Colorado, they are looking for outdoor recreation opportunities. Many choose Grand County for its close proximity to the Front Range, relatively low population density, and of course its boundless opportunities for getting outside and enjoying the Colorado sunshine.
If you could change one thing about Grand County, what would it be?
It seems to be a common misconception around the area that shopping locally with your friends and neighbors that own or operate businesses is only for the well off. I believe that shopping locally with your friend or neighbor puts a dollar in their pocket that is more likely to stay in the community. It ensures that you will not be forced to travel to find something in the future because your local grocer or retailer decided there was no market and discontinued it, or worse, went out of business.
