When Stephanie Richardson was a child she dreamed of living in Grand County. Since 2008, that dream has been a reality.
Over the last decade, Richardson has carved out a special place for herself in the Granby area as manager and co-owner of Maverick’s Grille.
Along with her activities in the business world, including her conducting of Maverick’s popular trivia night, Richardson also enjoys volunteering with various organizations in Grand County. She volunteers with the National Sports Center for the Disabled helping and teaching children to enjoy cross country skiing and snowshoeing.
“When she is not busy caring for her two children she lends her time and talents to helping in their classrooms, scouting and other extracurricular activities,” read her nomination.
What problem would you like to solve?
Many people see millennials as individuals who are lazy, entitled, disconnected from reality and preoccupied with themselves. I want to show people that that is a negative preconceived view on who we really are. Millennials are a very diverse group and we have grown up with the fast pace of changing technology, communication and news.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years I see myself continuing to work at Maverick’s Grille part time and raising my family.
Who’s your hero and why?
My heroes are definitely my mom and dad. They have always supported me and helped me excel in everything I have wanted to do, and they taught me the importance of hard work, honesty and perseverance.
What is it about your generation that sets it apart?
We grew up with the Internet at our fingertips, which has made millennials great problem solvers, multitaskers and a generation that enjoys problem solving and learning.
Why did you choose Grand County?
As a child, my parents would bring me to Grand County every year to go camping and fishing. I immediately fell in love with the small towns and the beauty of the lakes.
How do you like to play in Grand County?
There are so many fun things to do in Grand County. I enjoy skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, hiking, boating, fishing, observing wildlife, and being outside as much as possible.
What kind of future do you see for your industry in Grand County?
Grand County relies heavily on tourism and so does the restaurant industry up here. I see a lot of new and different restaurants starting to open around the county and we must learn to adapt to all the changes happening. Having other restaurants and competitors is what helps us try harder and to stand out. Our No. 1 goal is to create an enjoyable dining experience with delicious food and a friendly atmosphere. Having the competition around helps us work on innovation, customer service, cost control and staff retention.
If you could change one thing about Grand County, what would it be?
I love the snow and winter season, but I wish summer was longer!
