Berthoud Pass is currently closed in both directions this morning after a semi overturned on the pass earlier in the day.

At 8:35 a.m. officials from Colorado’s Department of Transportation issued a notification that US Highway 40 in the area of Berthoud Pass was closed due to the overturned vehicle.

“US 40 Berthoud Pass closed both directions between Mary Jane Ski Area and the Henderson Mine due to overturned semi,” stated officials from CDOT. “Extended closure expected.”

Details on the incident were sparse Wednesday morning as the situation continued to develop. The rollover incident involving the semi occurred near milepost 245, near the fifth switchback from the bottom of Berthoud Pass in Clear Creek County.

Officials from Colorado State Patrol said the closure is estimated to last for the next three to four hours.
