BURRRRR: Tabernash got down to -22 degrees Tuesday morning

Mountain towns across Colorado woke up to bone chilling temperatures on Tuesday, and Tabernash was actually one of the coldest places in the state.

According to the National Weather Service, Antero Reservoir was the coldest place in Colorado and in the lower 48 states on Tuesday with the mercury registering -44 degrees Fahrenheit.

At 8,942 feet, the reservoir isn’t much higher in elevation than Tabernash, which sits at 8,333 feet and got down to -22 degrees Tuesday morning.

By comparison, Tabernash was a little warmer than Dillon (-18 degrees) but not as cold as Waverly (-32 degrees) or Cowdrey (-32 degrees). Extreme cold also hit Granby and Kremmling, which both recorded morning temps at -17 degrees.

Meanwhile, Wednesday’s forecast calls for a high of 36 degrees, a low of 10 degrees and sunny skies.
