Coaches pick West Grand’s Emma DeSanti to play in all-state volleyball match

West Grand’s Emma DeSanti gave opposing coaches headaches throughout the 2019 volleyball season. Now, they’ve voted her into this weekend’s Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports Class 2A All-State Volleyball game.

The all-state teams are scheduled for a practice and banquet on Saturday before the match at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Broomfield High School.

On Friday, West Grand coach Scott Terryberry said that DeSanti, who was also named the Mustangs’ Player of the Year, is “very deserving” of the all-state nod. In naming DeSanti the team’s player of the year, her versatility, coachable nature and fierce determination were all highlighted.

“She’s just one of those types of players who stands out, and she was able to show her talents off to other coaches around the state,” Terryberry said of DeSanti making the coaches’ all-state cut.

DeSanti’s selection comes after the Mustangs completed a season with a 23-6 record, 11-1 in the Western Slope League, while earning a berth in the state tournament.

In the tourney, West Grand rallied twice to win in five sets before losing an elimination game to Simla. The Mustangs also fell to No. 2 seed Limon at state.

Not including the state tournament’s matches, DeSanti compiled 230 kills, 284 assists, 41 aces, 85 blocks and 313 digs for the season.

Sunday’s all-state match will feature 18 players divided into a Red team and a Blue team. On the Blue team with DeSanti will be state champion Denver Christian’s Marissa Bol and Anna Kaemingk, Union Colony’s Mayson Fago and Desirae Pisano, Wiggins’ Paige Finegan, Telluride’s Danika Petit, Limon’s Lauren Stang and Highland’s Alyssa Winter.

The Colorado High School Activities Association has not yet released its all-state selections for the 2019 volleyball season.
