Coroner releases name of woman killed in Thursday wreck near Kremmling

Two people died in a wreck Thursday evening on US Highway 40 about a mile east of Kremmling. Two others were airlifted to a Denver hospital.

The Grand County Coroner Office’s has identified the woman killed in a Thursday wreck on US Highway 40 as Erin Groves, 32, of Blackhawk.

Grove’s name had been withheld until Monday pending the notification of her family.

According to Colorado State Patrol, Groves was diving a 1998 Jeep Cherokee when the SUV went off the right side of the road, came back onto the highway and hit a 1999 Dodge Ram head-on about a mile east of Kremmling.

A passenger in the SUV, Nicholas Polashek, also of Blackhawk, died instantly, according to CSP.

CSP added that three people in the Ram were also hurt in the collision. The driver, Ignacio Hernandez of Kremmling, and one of his passengers were airlifted to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver with serious injuries. Another passenger in the pickup suffered minor injuries.

The highway remained closed for more than three hours while motorists were detoured around the wreck. CSP is still investigating, but speeding and impairment have been identified as potential contributing factors.
