A Kremmling man who led police on a high-speed chase in Grand County pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of vehicular eluding.
Zachary T. Tangney, 25, was arrested in October after missing a June court date for charges related to a high-speed pursuit through Kremmling in late April.
In his agreement, Tangney pleaded guilty to two felony counts of conspiracy to commit vehicular eluding and violation of probation. All other charges were dismissed.
If the court accepts the plea deal, Tangney’s sentence would be capped at two and a half years in community corrections for the aggravated vehicular eluding case, to be served concurrently with other charges. In the deal, Tangney also agreed to pay restitution up to $50,000. His sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 23.
The warrant for Tangney’s arrest following the April pursuit described how a deputy chased Tangney to Colorado Timber Resources, north of US Highway 40 at County Road 21.
When another deputy arrived, Tangney’s hit one of the patrol vehicles in his vehicle before leaving the yard at Timber Resources. Tangney headed west on US Highway 40 at speeds of 90-100 mph.
The chase continued for 8 miles before law enforcement officials deployed stop strips and flatted Tangney’s front left tire. The vehicle continued to Rayner’s Trailer Court, where Tangney abandoned the vehicle and ran into a trailer.
A brief standoff ensued as authorities unsuccessfully tried to communicate with Tangney. Authorities left the scene without him in custody and issued a warrant for his arrest the next day.
Tangney was eventually arrested on May 25 at a convenience store in Kremmling. He was released on a $25,000 bond and scheduled for a June 11 court date, which he failed to appear.
