Information is emerging on a new documentary film, “Tread,” with a strong local connection. The independent film is about the bulldozer rampage that took place in Granby in 2004.
The film is based, in part, on sourced material from the book by Patrick Brower, “Killdozer: The True Story of the Colorado Bulldozer Rampage.” The film’s official trailer is now playing on Apple Trailers and other platforms, and it’s been played numerous times since it was posted.
The film’s distributor is Gravitas Ventures, an independent film distributor. The film is set to be in theaters starting Feb. 21. Then a video-on-demand release date is set for Feb. 28. The film premiered last March at the South by SouthWest Film Festival to favorable reviews.
“There are many re-creations in the film that do a good job of presenting what happened on those long days leading up to the rampage,” Brower said. “But the film is at its best in the action sequences during the early stages of the rampage itself.”
The film contains many of the photos and clips of the actual event, shot by news photographers and regular people on the scene. The combination of the recreated footage with the actual footage, and photos of Heemeyer and his friends, make for a stimulating montage created for the big screen.
More information will be released in the near future when specifics are released about local and regional showings of the film.
