The last of the six people involved in a string of Grand
Lake burglaries has entered a plea deal.
On Thursday, 29-year-old Jorge Varela pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft between $750 and $2,000. The District Attorney dismissed a felony charge of second-degree burglary as well as all counts in his other case related to the burglaries.
Varela was sentenced to two years probation and 48 hours of community service. The courts fined him just over $2,000 and restitution can be determined within 91 days.
His plea deal marks the final resolution for six defendants connected to a series of burglaries in Grand Lake between 2017 and 2018. All six defendants, who were initially arrested in August 2018, entered plea deals.
Earlier this month, Colin Sabo, 44, pleaded guilty to felony aggravated theft and Candice Hewitt, 33, pleaded guilty to felony theft. Sabo’s sentencing will be Dec. 5 and Hewitt’s will be Nov. 7.
Paul Asbury, 47, pleaded guilty to 12 misdemeanor counts of theft in May. He was sentenced to three years of unsupervised probation and ordered to complete 120 hours of community service.
Joushua Miles, 25, pleaded guilty to one count of felony theft last November and was sentenced to 18 months in community corrections in January.
